WELCOME!

It is hard to believe that it was almost ten years ago I witnessed a CNC router in action for the very first time. I was fascinated with what I saw and simply had to have one! Although I had been in the creative end of the three dimensional sign business for most of my life I didn't really know what I would do with one - but I just knew it could do fantastic stuff.

Through extensive research and LOTS of hands-on practice I quickly found out that my MultiCam router was capable of just about anything imaginable. This journal will chronicle that journey to date and continue each week with two or three entries as I continue to explore just what is possible with this wonderful tool... -dan

Adding character to the wrench...

It only took a few minutes with an air powered die grinder to smooth out the glue joints. I took the opportunity to add a little more texture here and there, purposely putting a few dings into the wrench. I wanted this to be a used wrench with a little bit of character. My tools aren't just for show and this would be no exception. I know if I'm wedged under a hot rod and need a hammer I'll grab what's handy instead of climbing out and going back to the tool box. And a wrench makes a great hammer in a pinch.
I could have spent even less time with sandpaper making things perfectly smooth but this kind of oversize tool starts to look like a piece of plastic if things are too perfect. Once I was happy with everything I loaded on a generous coat of primer with a small brush... purposely adding a just little more subtle texture while I was at it.
Next installment I'll be doing the base coats and glazes to finish things off... stay tuned...
